Planning a Visit When You Have Dental Anxiety
If dental visits make you nervous, you can say so when you call. Sharing your concerns gives the dental team a better starting point for planning your appointment.
Explain what feels difficult
It may be uncertainty, sounds, a past experience or concern about pain. Tell the dentist what has helped or been difficult before. Ask for an explanation of the visit before treatment begins.
Agree on communication
Discuss a hand signal to request a pause. Let the team know if you are uncomfortable or need clarification. Ask about appropriate comfort options for your procedure and health history rather than assuming every option is available or suitable.
Prepare at your own pace
Write down questions in advance. You can ask whether headphones or other simple distractions are suitable during the visit. Slow, steady breathing may help with tension. If you have postponed care, start by discussing an evaluation and what it would involve.
Start a conversation
Meet Dr. Rayven Sheena, review our office information or call 248-455-6388. You can tell us what you need before choosing a treatment.
